Make Music

Make Music

Residents who call Jennings home in any of our communities will find not only a place to live but also opportunities to practice their talent or discover their potential. One of the most delightful examples is through the power of music. Whether it’s through tiny concerts or the performance of the resident choir, music offers a unique way to connect and celebrate, enhancing the quality of life for those who participate.

Resident choir: talent and purpose

Participating in the resident choir provides a unique opportunity for individuals of all abilities and residences to learn, enjoy fellowship through practice, and experience the therapeutic physical and spiritual effects of making music. Ted, along with Pastoral Care Associate Sr. Valerie Sweeney, lead the choir's efforts, creating performances and practices as well as arranging their participation in Sunday Mass.

At Jennings' 2024 Spirit and Splendor, the resident choir serenaded attendees with a song of gratitude, leaving the audience speechless. The experience was incredibly fulfilling for these singers, who experienced their first standing ovation.

By embracing the power of music, we create spaces where everyone, no matter their age, can find joy, build friendships, and live life as they desire.

Tiny concerts: intimate musical experiences

The Jennings Pub and neighborhood dining rooms have been perfect venues for tiny concerts, informal gatherings featuring staff and resident musicians. "It’s been such a rewarding experience to see residents and staff members explore their musical talents. I have also had the opportunity to further my own abilities," said Ted Steiner, Director of Mission and Ministry at Jennings. "Everyone loves the energy and emotional connection that comes through live music. It’s even more powerful when the performers are your friends."

Ted's own talent and love of music have connected him to staff and residents who share this passion. He has been a driving force in coordinating a resident choir at Jennings' Garfield Heights campus as well as the tiny concerts that showcase residents and staff members. The tiny concerts are intimate, but exciting and engaging. Tiny concerts have become more than just a passive activity—they are a celebration of community and expression of self, where everyone is invited to contribute.

The Jennings musicians find that sharing their talent is deeply rewarding, and the residents' applause and singing along demonstrate the power of music to touch lives. The personal connections transform an ordinary concert into an experience that resonates long after the music ends.
