The Sister Margaret Mary Excellence in Nursing and Life Enrichment Award was created on the occasion of Sr. Margaret Mary’s 90th birthday. Sister was a Sister of the Holy Spirit entering the convent at a very early age. She told the story of a classmate in 8th grade who took her to the convent to pay their respects to a deceased sister and had no inclination that she would find her vocation here. Sister became a nurse and was the first director of nursing at Jennings Hall. Sister cared deeply about the residents in her care as well as being a great model and support to the staff. In fact, Sister did not live in the convent during those years, she lived in the nursing home so that she could be close to those who needed her at all hours. Talk about dedication!

When most people consider retirement plans, Sister Margaret Mary lead the restorative care team and then transitioned to a life enrichment staff member and then volunteered in that role, with a special dedication to serving those with dementia. Sister was thought of to all who were blessed to know her as a woman of great compassion, energy and a spirit of competition that she channeled into good things for Jennings. Even though she was the oldest sister for the last decade of her life, she lived to be the final sister as they made the decision to complete the order. This award honors a staff member who works in either nursing or life enrichment who exemplifies the spirit of Sister Margaret Mary.
