Rudy Eliason spent the last three years of his life as a resident of Jennings. He was a son, a brother, an uncle. Most of all he was a kind, generous and fierce friend. Rudy owned a roofing and building supply company and was keenly aware of the value of good customer service. Rudy not only knew his regular customers, he also knew all about their families.
Rudy took care of his mother for most of her life. She survived two strokes, a broken hip and pneumonia under his care. This experience taught him first-hand what being a caregiver truly takes. Rudy loved anyone who took a moment to chat with him and tell him about their life. People taking the extra minute to show kindness and compassion was what made him the happiest. Titles did not mean much to Rudy; the character of a person was what mattered.

The Rudy Eliason Award was established with an endowed gift by his niece to recognize a staff member who best engages residents by demonstrating the qualities of kindness, compassion and the willingness to provide a listening ear.
