Jennings remembers founders on Pentecost Sunday

The Solemnity of Pentecost, celebrated fifty days after Easter, is the feast on which we remember the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples and remained at their side, as the Paraclete "who transformed their hearts and instilled in them a serene courage which impelled them to pass on to others their experience of Jesus and the hope which motivated them." (Vatican News)

Jennings holds this day especially close because Pentecost is the feast day of our founders, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit. In 1942, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit gave life to Jennings in honor of Monsignor Gilbert P. Jennings, and began serving aging adults by opening a campus in Garfield Heights, Ohio. What has evolved is an organization with a legacy of compassionate care, quality residences, spirit of innovation and call to service.

The Sisters of the Holy Spirit emulated a spirit of joy, love and service through a deep sense of mission. Setting examples of core beliefs through their actions, the Sisters held positions at Jennings until 2020 in addition to their religious life. They nurtured a culture of exceptional person-centered care for those we serve, which is embodied today in Jennings’ staff and volunteers.
