African Drumming

Traditional African drumming has been an integral part of African Societies for centuries. The “African Drumming Culture” embodies rhythmic storytelling, cultural symbolism which resonates worldwide. Since 1995 Kuumba has been preserving traditional African music throughout the Diaspora, our goal is to educate, enrich, and motivate individuals to create positive images of family and self while incorporating valuable experiences that promote healthy lifestyles and community healing through stage, workshops, communal gatherings and cultural exposure, providing quality entertainment and education programs worldwilde, facilitating cross-cultural enrichment. Introducing the essence of traditional African drum & dance; enriching cultural heritage through the integration of African arts and promoting intercultural understanding through education and the performing arts. This program is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

Barbara stays active and enjoys walking among the serene Jennings at Notre Dame Village landscape. She finds purpose these days in welcoming new residents and learning what is unique about each person to make them feel special. “You say ‘not me’ when you’re younger,” Barbara explains. “We’re all getting older, and we’re not the same as we were a few years ago."
