Lucy: years of friendship and frolic
Lucy was a resident of Jennings at Brecksville, whose family wrote us a reflection on their experience at Jennings following their mother's death. "As we set out to write a thank you note to all of you who took care of our Mom while she lived at Jennings, the first thing that comes to mind is how insufficient 'thank you' is. You were her friends, her caregivers, her companions and so much more. Without you, our Mom's experience would have been so different.
"After Mom's first fall (at home), we realized we were ill-equipped to provide for her all the care she needed as she hit the mid-90s. We remember the day we sat in the staycation suite (at Jennings at Brecksville) trying to explain this to her, and all she saw was despair. It was only weeks later that she was practicing her 'Macarena' dance moves with all her friends for the upcoming performance.
"Fast forward a year, and we found ourselves in COVID-19 precautions. We couldn't visit Mom for Happy Hour, which was such a fun time! Did this throw Mom back into despair? No! On many occasions, we would call her to check in, and she was too busy to talk! 'I'll call you after Bingo!' or 'I'm heading to Happy Hour!'
"What does it take to transform that moment of despair into years of friendship and frolic? It takes a team of angels...and that's what you are!
"So, from the bottom of our hearts, we say, 'Thank You' for all you did for our Mother, and we thank God for you! We hope we can pay it forward in some small way as opportunities arise. We will think of you when we do."
With all our love,
Lucy's family
