Come, Holy Spirit: Celebrating Pentecost and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit

“Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.”

On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles. "And there appeared to them parted tongues as of fire, which settled upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in foreign tongues, even as the Holy Spirit prompted them to speak (Acts 2, 1-4).

At Jennings, we also remember our founders, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, as this is their feast day. The Sisters felt called “to be always responsive to the Spirit’s Holy inspirations...” especially in decision making, ministry guidance, daily work and serving where there is the greatest need.

Through the Holy Spirit, we each have unique gifts that we use in different ways but all for the same mission and the same God. In the legacy of our founders, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, we remind each other to use our gifts and honor the gifts of others so we may all benefit the greater good. They inspired each person - resident and staff alike - to use their unique gifts.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;
there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
there are different workings but the same God
who produces all of them in everyone.
To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.
As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body,so also Christ.
1 Corinthians 12
