Second boosters available at Jennings for eligible residents and staff

Dear Residents and Family Members:

The wellness of residents and staff is our priority. Thank you for all you are doing to help prevent the spread of seasonal illness as well as COVID-19.

Vaccines continue to protect people from getting seriously ill—especially people who have received a booster. You may have seen two items in the news recently. First, there is a concern about another spike in COVID-19 cases in Ohio. Jennings recently experienced an increase in positive tests at its Jennings at Brecksville location. Fortunately, most individuals who were vaccinated with a booster experienced just mild symptoms. Second, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated its recommendations for a second COVID-19 booster for “certain immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least 4 months ago to be eligible for another mRNA booster to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19.”

Although COVID-19 vaccines remain effective in preventing severe disease, recent data suggest their effectiveness at preventing infection or severe illness wanes over time, especially in people ages 65 years and older. Jennings’ Medical Director, Dr. James Campbell, also recommends the second booster for those who are eligible and received his second booster. He confirms the recommendation for residents to offer the best protection against serious illness.

We have confirmed a vaccine clinic to make a second COVID-19 booster available to nursing home and assisted living residents on Monday, April 25 at Jennings. Residents who would like the second booster – or who need any of the COVID-19 vaccine doses – may sign up for this clinic.
