Governor repeats visiting restrictions (9/17/20)

While the Jennings staff welcomes the opportunity for families to visit their loved ones in a way that is safe, the ability to open indoor visitation has not yet been granted. Jennings will continue to follow the state and federal regulations pertaining to visiting.

Ohio Department of Aging Director Ursel McElroy stated last week that she will “announce very soon what we have in store for indoor visitation.” No specific plans have yet been shared. In addition to Director McElroy’s statement, Governor Mike DeWine misspoke during his press conference September 17, which led LeadingAge Ohio to release a statement and descriptive document regarding ongoing visitation restrictions in Ohio’s long-term care residences. Governor DeWine later clarified that indoor visiting has not yet been reopened by the state.

Statements made during the press conference led state not-for-profit advocacy agency LeadingAge Ohio to release a statement and descriptive document regarding ongoing visitation restrictions in Ohio’s long-term care residences.

“When the Governor stated that nursing homes were to blame for ongoing visitation restrictions, we heard an immediate outcry from providers around the state,” said Kathryn Brod, President of LeadingAge Ohio. “Our members continue to follow state and federal regulations pertaining to visitation, and at no point have Ohio providers been given guidance or permission to offer indoor visitation from the Administration.”
