Congratulations to volunteer Hank Kurdziel, who was selected as a 2015 Medical Mutual Statewide Outstanding Senior Volunteer Finalist. This year marked the 22nd year for the event, and 25 years of recognizing volunteers. The event honors senior citizen volunteers who enhance the lives of others through serving local communities. Hank was nominated by Kathy LiPuma, Supervisor of Daily Operations at Jennings’ Eva L. Bruening Adult Day Center and Denise Kodek, Human Resources/Volunteer Coordinator, for his dedication to adult day services and its participants for the past twelve years.
Medical Mutual recognized senior citizens who volunteer their time to help others. Its Senior Volunteer Awards saluted those volunteers who act in a selfless, caring manner and are committed to enhancing the quality of the lives of those around them. Nominations are submitted from community organizations with first-hand knowledge of exceptional volunteers who are at least 65 years old. The top four award winners – Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze – received plaques and were considered for top honors for the Statewide Awards luncheon.
The nomination describes Hank’s generous 12-year volunteer history at Jennings. He helped to form and support Jennings’ Singing Seniors group, individuals on the Jennings campus who discover their potential with their beautiful voices. who continue to perform concerts twice a year. He was the original founder of the adult day center participants’ Men’s Group and created a weekly” Java and Jazz” event for men to join him to enjoy coffee, play cards, have a donut and enjoy some jazz music. Kathy said of him, “He is always pleasant and kind…Hank continues to be a charming, humble, down-to-earth gentleman who volunteers with the same heart that he has given to every endeavor in life.”
Hank was the Superintendent of the South Euclid/Lyndhurst school district before his retirement. He was always well-regarded in the community and was known for always going the extra mile for the students and families in his district. He was presented with an award and honored at a luncheon that was held on May 29 at Shaker Heights Country Club. His family attended the event as well as Kathy and Denise. Jennings Center for Older Adults was presented with an award as well for inspiring volunteers to “Be the Change”. Congratulations, Hank!
My father moved into Jennings in June 2024 and has nothing but good things to say about Jennings. The food is great, the staff is so nice and everything is so clean!! The rooms are spacious and the apartments are very bright. It is a relief knowing your loved one is safe and happy. It was definitely the right move for my father.
