Visiting

Visiting

Every guest (of all ages) to assisted living or nursing home residences at any location must wear a procedure mask when entering the building. Cloth masks are not acceptable to wear at this time. Visitors are welcome to visit when it is convenient for their loved one, and no appointment is necessary.

Visit Guidelines

Our priority is to keep our community of residents, patients, staff, volunteers and guests healthy. Every individual - of all ages and vaccine status - who live, work or visit in nursing home and assisted living residences must all adhere to the COVID-19 infection prevention core principles at all times, including:

  • Visitors who have a positive test or COVID-19 symptoms, or who currently meet the criteria for quarantine, will NOT enter the building.
  • All visitors must complete the screening process upon entry into the building.
    • Please take your time - EVERY TIME - to be thoughtful and truthful. Symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other seasonal viruses, and even a scratchy throat could signal something contagious.
    • If you have tested positive for COVID-19, have been exposed to someone who is positive or have any symptoms, consider choosing an alternate visit method such as a virtual visit or window visit.
  • All individuals – of every age – must wear a procedure mask and keep physical distancing of at least 6 feet between people.
  • Visitors may visit in the resident’s suite, but not in community areas such as the dining rooms, Mass, community rooms, etc. However, residents and families may reserve a community space for a gathering with a resident. The number of attendees should be able to physically distance in the space provided.
  • All individuals should practice good hand hygiene by washing hands frequently or using hand sanitizer.
  • Individuals should follow instructional signage throughout the building. Jennings will provide proper visitor education on COVID-19 signs and symptoms, infection control precautions and other Jennings specific practices.
  • Jennings has a plan if needed to create a separate area dedicated to COVID-19 care.
  • Jennings will continue resident and staff testing as required, for example for those who are symptomatic or exposed or during an outbreak. In accordance with CMS, we discourage visits to residents who are in quarantine or during an outbreak.

In-suite visiting:

  • Fully vaccinated residents can choose to have close contact with their visitor in accordance with the CDC's "Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic."
  • Unvaccinated residents may also choose to have physical touch based on their preferences. Please discuss these unique risks with a Jennings staff member in order to make an informed decision.

Visiting Residents in Apartments, Cottage Homes and Villa Homes:

Visit Guidelines

Jennings asks all visitors, of all ages and vaccine status, to wear a facial covering in any common areas to be respectful of all the individuals who call Jennings home and may live with medical conditions. Please do not visit if you are not feeling well.

Signs and Symptoms of COVID-19

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone can have mild to severe symptoms. This list does not include all possible symptoms, but people with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

When to Visit After Testing Positive or Exposure

For those who test positive:

  • If a resident/patient tests positive, they may still have visitors in isolation. Please have a conversation with a Jennings administrator or nurse to consider the overall health and symptoms of the person who is ill, as well as your risk for a visit.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19, you must quarantine for 10 days past the date of the test. If you have symptoms past that 10 day quarantine, please refrain from visiting until 24 hours past the end of your symptoms.

For those who have been exposed to a COVID-positive person:

  • If an individual is unvaccinated and has been exposed to someone who is COVID- positive, guidelines suggest isolating for 14 days after the last exposure.
  • If an individual is vaccinated and has been exposed to someone who is COVID-positive, an isolation period is not required. However, guidelines suggest wearing a mask, keeping physical distance, and testing 5-7 days after exposure.
